Where there is time for everyone

IT Professionals – ever feel you need to do something different, to get away from the long, arduous daily commute, develop your career with rapidly-expanding, fast-paced organisations where work/life balance is positively encouraged including teleworking and flexible hours.

Here in the North-West of Ireland there are many, many reasons to make the most of this work/life balance.

Lonely Planet

has described County Donegal as “a land of unspoilt splendour where stark peaks and sweeping beaches bask in glorious sunshine, and little restaurants serve amazing food. Uncrowded Donegal’s rugged interior with its remote mountain passes and shimmering lakes is only marginally outdone by the long and labyrinthine coastline with it’s windswept peninsulas and isolated, characterful pubs.”

While Ireland’s only walled city, Derry/Londonderry, “sits alongside a broad sweep of the River Foyle and echoes with centuries of often-turbulent history. The current decade has seen it undergo a renaissance as a cultural powerhouse, with a profusion of creative enterprises, public artworks and vibrant music & dining scenes“.

County Tyrone “is dominated by the tweed-tinted moorlands of the Sperrin Mountains, whose southern flanks are dotted with prehistoric sites. Apart from the hiking opportunities offered by these heather-clad hills, the county’s main attraction is the Ulster American Folk Park, a fascinating outdoor museum celebrating Ulster’s historic links with the USA”.

County Sligo is described as “more pastoral and its lush fields, fish-filled lakes and flat-topped mountains inspired William Butler Yeats to compose some of Ireland’s most ardent verse”.

Tourists have described the area as “a little bit of heaven” where the scenery is pure and the welcome is unmatched.

There are many attractions from the beaches of Donegal,

In business terms the whole area has been revitalised recently with Pharmaceuticals leading the way in Sligo, Technology in Letterkenny and the City of Derry and Agri-business & Engineering in Tyrone.

Schools tend to be smaller with a more personal feel while third-level is catered for by Sligo IT, Letterkenny IT and Magee College, University of Ulster in Derry.

Sport is very important in the area with local footballers Seamus Coleman, James McClean, Shay Given & Darren Gibson plying their trade in the English Premier League, three League of Ireland Premier clubs in Sligo Rovers, Finn Harps and Derry City and a thriving league throughout the region both at adult level and underage. In Gaelic Games, Derry, Tyrone and Donegal have all won All-Ireland titles in recent times while club and underage games are also very strong. Watersports are very popular with some of the best surfing in the world at Strandhill, Bundoran and Rossnowlagh. Athletics clubs are also strongly supported with the likes of Mark English, Karl Griffin & Mary Cullen representing Ireland recently. In Boxing Jason Quigley is flying the flag in the US with 9 wins in 9 Professional fights.

Shopping centres in Derry, Letterkenny, Omagh and Sligo offer a mix of ‘usual suspects’ Chain stores, Department stores and independent, family run traditional shops & restaurants.

So whether you are ready to further develop your career in a fast-paced environment or you have reached a point where a short commute, flexible working arrangements and Work/Life balance while not neglecting your career has become more important to you – this may be the opportunity for you.
